To start your mediation I have outlaid a few ideas:
1. Meditation Techniques
On this seven day meditation journey, I suggest that we all keep a journal to record our individual experiences. Please feel free to share with all of us how you are benefiting and experiencing this flow.
2. Set a realistic goal
For those that have not mediated before, I suggest you start with just two minutes, until you feel better grounded to move up your meditation time. Set an alarm on your phone for two minutes for the first three days, then move the time up to three minutes for two days, and systematically increase the time every few days. This is really about you pacing yourself out until you are ready to relax into of your sacred space.
3. Live in the moment to recognize the benefits.
Following your practice, it's important to take the time to reflect on the experience. Process and engage with the emotions that may follow meditation. Remember that we each will have our own experiences and will each develop on our own merit. Meditation is a time of 'no pressure' to be perfect. This is your time to connect with your highest self.
When it comes to the different meditation techniques you can engage in namely:
Guided meditation: Mentally visualizing a relaxing situation or place, using various senses like sight, sound, and smell to enhance the experience.
Mindfulness meditation: It's when you willingly live in the present, only aware of physical sensations like your flow of breath. Emotions and thoughts are allowed, but aren't judged.
Yoga: A more familiar exercise, yoga's various poses and breathing techniques encourage you to focus on balance, physical flexibility, and a calm mind.
Mantra Meditation: The repetition of a singular word or phrase that is spoken quietly to encourage concentration.
Tai chi: A gentle, paced form of Chinese martial arts that's comprised of a series of specific movements.
Transcendental meditation: Intended to minimize physical and mental effort, you quietly repeat a personal mantra in a particular way in order to achieve ultimate peace and relaxation.
